Designing cats and dogs
My design work at Cascade Kennels was less structured than, say, a homework assignment. Due to my role at the company not being rooted in design, I mainly approached the projects I did as a way to apply my skills to business.

To my understanding the current Cascade Kennels Logo has been the same one since the 90's. This does give the company a strong sense of consistency, however I though a fun project for me would be to revamp the logo.

My first pass at the logo focused on simple adjustments. I smoothed out the harsh corners of the lettering to make it look a touch more modern, and connected any obviously disjointed letters to make it flow.

The second pass at the logo was more of a complete redesign. I think the Cascade Mountain Range motif is a bit dated, so I replaced it with a leash that loosely resembled the same outline.
The logo redesign was more of a personal project. I'm not sure if it'll ever officially change, but in the mean time I was also tasked with designing a tri-fold pamphlet to display in the lobby, as well as local veterinarians and pet shops.

For my design I went with a slab serif font for the headings, and a simple, thin, sans serif for the main text. I felt the slab serif I chose complimented the woodsy aesthetic of the company. The circular pictures were more interesting to look at than standard rectangular crops. The design went through several rounds of edits with my manager and the owner.

Below you can find a mock up of my final design, which was approved and printed.

With recent COVID-19 concerns, Cascade Kennels also began offering packages that would give customers significant savings if they purchased them now. I was tasked with presenting that information in a way that was easy to understand, and that could be sent out to customers via email.

I decided to use Canva for this project so that my coworkers could also use the same system to edit the file as needed, since Canva is a little more user friendly and requires less prior knowledge than programs like Illustrator. The leaf images are from Canva as well.
